Those of you looking to own a really, really choice home near the Orange County coast will be disappointed to learn that one in particular is now off the market. According to the Orange County Register, the Huntington Beach mansion of Robert Rizzo, the disgraced former city manager of Bell, has found a buyer.
Rizzo, of course, gained national attention last year when his role at the center of Bell's government-pay scandal was exposed. Just prior to his ouster, he had managed to award himself one of the most lucrative public-employee compensation packages in the United States, taking home almost $800,000 a year. You can buy a pretty nice pad with that kind of money, even in California: just a mile from the beach, Rizzo's 3,250-square-foot home featured three fireplaces, three patios, two balconies, cherrywood closets, lots of stained glass, and coffered ceilings. The home only spent 11 days on the market, and drew almost a dozen offers. If it makes you feel any better, the $949,000 asking price represents a loss of over $180,000 on what Rizzo originally paid for it in 2007.
